DD is a haven of tranquility nestled amongst the sandy shores of Anguilla with commanding views of St. Maarten and the Caribbean Sea. An architect’s home that has been described by design savvy visitors as “Quintessentially Caribbean”.
DD is modeled on vernacular Anguilla building forms in a contemporary manner where living relates to the climate, trade winds, sun and nature — large sliding and folding door disappear into the walls and the distinction between indoor and outdoor merges seamlessly into living in the Caribbean Style. As you approach the entrance to the home, a mature drought resistant tropical garden, you pass through a serene courtyard to discover the panoramic view of the sea with the islands of St. Barths, St. Martin and Saba before you.
By day, the view with the changing colours of the sea and land is subtle entertainment; at sunset to dusk it is mesmerizing with the luminous glow of the sky; at night with the lights of St. Martin, sea vessels in the channel, the soft landscape lighting, and twinkling stars above, it is magical.
DD’s three peaked roof pavilions, joined together with low roof structures, covered walkways and courtyards shelter a private sea side garden with an outdoor living area gazebo, stepping down to the sun and shaded infinity pool, all overlooking the beach, sea and islands. Principle rooms have sight lines of the sea and the outdoor entertainment area through large doors of the kitchen, living, and dining areas that disappear into the walls. The garden planting divides the outdoor entertainment area into intimate spaces, so that entertaining family, small groups or large events becomes a comfortable experience.
The main pavilions offer three private master suites each featuring unique views of the ocean and the gardens. One pavilion has a master suite on the first floor and another on the second floor. Another pavilion has a separate guest apartment, bedroom with bath and lounge that can be used as two bedrooms — flexible space that can be a master suite, a seniors’ flat, a children’s house, or a rental income. The kitchen and family/pool area has use of a two-piece bathroom off the entrance courtyard. Although DD is spread out in an L shape around its private garden, it is intimate, and even though the bedroom areas are separated from each other, the design gives a sense of security — when the doors to the entrance courtyard are locked, one can move freely and securely to all indoor parts of the home without going outside.
As part of the main house, a separate cottage with private street access and separating doors to the main house, provides two one en-suite rooms creating another level of privacy for your guests. The Cottage, separated by stairs and double doors to the main house has one en-suite bathroom, kitchen, living/dining/patio, and private entrance to the street, which can be rented separately with privacy, if desired.
The villa’s unique architecture, open living spaces, sparkling pool, lush tropical landscaping, and stunning views of St. Maarten provide an ideal sanctuary for those desiring Anguilla’s West Indies charm. DD is unique in Anguilla, you will be impressed.
